Book #6 from the series: The Bloodwrought Cycle

Dragons of Blackmoor: Where Monsters Pray (Season 1: Ep 21-25) (The Bloodwrought Cycle Book 6)

About

Season One

In Blackmoor, the only thing more dangerous than the monsters is the blood in your veins.

Melissa Moore thought she was accepting an easy witch life—until Blackmoor proved there’s no such thing. In a town built on ancient grudges and buried magic, the truth about her family awakens something long dormant. As the Equinox approaches, Melissa’s power begins to rise, marking her as prey to every supernatural force watching the city.

Xylar Thorne is the Dragon Sin of Lust: a lethal hybrid of dragon and vampire, forged into a weapon by a family that never intended to love him. After centuries in the shadows, he’s finished being used. With civil war fracturing the Thorne bloodline, Xylar is ready to seize the throne—and burn anyone who stands in his way.

When an ancient evil threatens to rise and strip Blackmoor of its magic, Melissa and Xylar are forced into a dangerous alliance—one that quickly becomes something more. Drawn together by power, pain, and a pull neither of them can deny, they discover that love may be the one thing more terrifying than war.But in a world where loyalty is a lie and every secret demands blood, loving the wrong person can be fatal.

As the sun sets on the final day, they must choose: save the world that fears them—or destroy it to protect each other.

Praise for this book

Excellent, poignant writing and an intricate plot rise in intensity to a point that almost make the wait for book 7 and the end of Season 1 unbearable. Eh, but what choice do I have?

The cast of characters stabilizes, but their actions become so important that the multiple POV becomes quite necessary. Even the names of the characters are an interesting choice. Each of their actions is driven by deep emotions or limitless cruelty - or both. Thirst for power or immortality and love for family (born in or found) drive everybody in a clash of life and death.

Nobody is perfectly good, even the characters I root for make mistakes and more than questionable choices - when choice is truly a choice. But be aware: there are perfectly evil characters in this book, giving it a dimension of despair in an unbalanced, ruthless fight, driven by greed, fear, love and survival.

There is so much imagination in the plot and at the same time so much human reality that you won't be able to put the book down, so enjoy!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five Stars — A Dark, Addictive Masterpiece That Blurs the Line Between Monster and Savior

Where Monsters Pray: Dragons of Blackmoor by R.D. Foster is everything I crave in a dark romantasy—haunting, emotionally raw, and utterly impossible to put down. This installment raises the stakes in every possible way, plunging readers deeper into Blackmoor, where bloodlines are power, loyalty is fragile, and love might be the most dangerous force of all. The series itself thrives on broken characters, morally gray choices, and supernatural chaos, making every moment feel intense and meaningful.

Melissa Moore continues to grow into one of the most compelling heroines I’ve read. Her journey from uncertainty into strength is both heartbreaking and empowering. Watching her embrace her legacy while navigating fear, responsibility, and forbidden desire shows just how much she’s willing to sacrifice—not just for Blackmoor, but for herself. Her vulnerability makes her human, but her resilience makes her unforgettable.

And then there’s Xylar Thorne—dangerous, powerful, and devastatingly complex. As a dragon-vampire hybrid forged into a weapon and burdened with fractured loyalties, he embodies the perfect morally gray anti-hero. His love isn’t soft or safe—it’s fierce, consuming, and willing to burn the world if it means protecting Melissa. The tension between them is electric, filled with longing, pain, and that irresistible “touch her and you die” devotion that makes dark romantasy so addictive.

The world-building in this book is phenomenal. Blackmoor feels alive—haunted by ancient grudges, buried magic, and an ever-present sense that something ancient and terrifying is awakening. The looming threat of an ancient evil, combined with fractured alliances and rising supernatural war, creates constant tension that keeps you turning pages long into the night.

What truly sets this book apart is the emotional depth. This isn’t just a story about monsters—it’s about broken people trying to survive, protect what they love, and decide whether they will become the monsters they fear…or rise above them. The love story isn’t easy or pure—it’s dangerous, painful, and completely consuming.

By the final pages, I was emotionally wrecked in the best possible way. The tension, the sacrifices, and the impossible choices left me desperate for more. R.D. Foster has crafted a brutal, beautiful continuation of the Dragons of Blackmoor series that proves monsters don’t just destroy—they love, they suffer, and sometimes, they pray.

This book is dark romantasy perfection, and I am completely obsessed with Blackmoor.
